Crisis Resources: what to do when support cannot wait

If someone may harm themselves or someone else, or there is immediate danger, use emergency services now. This site cannot provide crisis counseling.

Immediate danger

Call 911.
Go to the nearest emergency department.
Stay with the person if it is safe to do so and remove immediate hazards where possible.

Suicidal thoughts or severe distress

In the US, call or text 988.
Use 988 chat if phone or text is not safe.
Ask local crisis services whether mobile crisis support is available.

After immediate safety

Contact a licensed clinician or local crisis team.
Ask about urgent appointments or a higher level of care.
Prepare insurance, ID, medication list, and emergency contacts if going to urgent or emergency care.
